There are few experiences quite like standing in a room filled with readers who are genuinely excited about books and they’re eager to meet the people who create them. The Buckeye Book Fair offers exactly that, and we warmly invite traditionally published authors and illustrators to submit their work for consideration for the 2026 Fair.
For decades, the Buckeye Book Fair has been one of Ohio’s most respected literary traditions. Each year, thousands of readers, educators, librarians, and book lovers gather for a single, vibrant day devoted entirely to storytelling. It is a high-energy, reader-focused event where books are celebrated, authors are valued, and meaningful connections happen naturally. Authors frequently tell us that the Fair is one of the most welcoming, well-organized, and rewarding events they attend.
Why Authors Love the Buckeye Book Fair
Participation in the Buckeye Book Fair offers more than visibility. The event offers engagement. Attending authors meet enthusiastic book buyers, connect with educators and librarians, and spend the day in conversation with readers who truly care about stories and the people behind them. The Fair is mission-driven and thoughtfully curated, balancing strong book sales with long-term audience building and genuine community connection.
Who Should Submit
We are currently accepting submissions of original, published works by authors and illustrators. Submissions may be made by authors, illustrators, publicists, or publishing professionals. Titles from major and mid-sized trade publishers are strongly encouraged.
Books published by independent presses, university presses, and self-publishing platforms are also eligible and welcome, provided they meet the additional criteria outlined in the submission guidelines.
We are deeply committed to showcasing a wide range of voices, stories, and perspectives. Authors and illustrators from diverse backgrounds and abilities are strongly encouraged to submit.

Buckeye Book Fair

Ohio Connections Welcome
We proudly highlight Ohio’s literary community. In your submission letter, please note if the author or illustrator was born in Ohio, currently resides in Ohio, or has a meaningful connection to the state. Books with Ohio-related themes or settings are especially encouraged. For select high-interest titles, the Ohio connection requirement may be waived.
Publication & Availability
Please include the book’s publication date in your submission. Eligible titles must have been published after August 1, 2025, and be available for sale by November 7, 2026. In limited cases, early release permissions may be considered for books publishing shortly after the Fair.
Bookseller Terms
To ensure a successful event for authors and readers alike, submissions must meet standard bookseller terms, including:
- Ready-to-ship availability
- A minimum 40% wholesale discount
- Full returnability
These terms allow the Buckeye Book Fair to operate smoothly as its own bookseller and to effectively serve both authors and attendees.
Selection Process
The Selection Committee reviews more than 200 submitted titles each year and carefully curates a balanced, high-quality mix of books. Factors considered include quality of the work, design and production, audience appeal, list price, ISBN presence, and overall salability. Because space is limited, participation is competitive.
Invitations are issued by email on a rolling basis, with all selections finalized by August 20, 2026. Authors and illustrators who are not selected will be notified in early September. While decisions are never easy, availability and programming needs vary from year to year, and we warmly encourage re-submission with future titles.

A Professional, Author-First Experience
The Buckeye Book Fair serves as its own bookseller and manages ordering, sales, and returns. In lieu of a table fee, participating authors and illustrators provide five complimentary copies of their book, which support the Fair’s nonprofit literacy programming. The event is guided by clear community standards to ensure a respectful, welcoming environment for all participants.
If you are looking for a literary event where readers show up excited, books are truly celebrated, and authors feel genuinely welcomed, we encourage you to submit your work for the 2026 Buckeye Book Fair. We look forward to discovering your book and celebrating your contribution to Ohio’s rich literary landscape.
